🏜️ Ultimate Bucket List: Arches National Park (Hiker’s Edition)

We love adventure—and Arches delivered. In just two days, we chased sunrises, hiked nonstop, and saw more arches than we could count. From the golden glow of Delicate Arch to the rugged back trails of Devils Garden, every step felt like a discovery. This park is massive, surreal, and made for adventurers who want it all!

📍Delicate Arch

🥾 1. Devils Garden Trail (Highlight!)
~ Our favorite hike—rugged, remote, and full of surprises. It’s in our top 5 hikes of all the places we’ve traveled.
~ Includes Tunnel Arch, Pine Tree Arch, Landscape Arch, and the stunning Double O Arch
~ We did the full loop clockwise and loved every minute of it. Expect climbing, scrambling, and at one point—you may even get wet walking through a pool of water.
~ It’s challenging but wildly rewarding—start early to beat the heat and the crowds.
~ Distance: 7.8 miles (12.6 km) round trip
~ Time: 3.5–5 hours ( Started at 7am, we did it in 4 hours )

🌅 2. Sunrise at Delicate Arch
(Highlight)
~ Hiked in the dark to catch first light through the arch.
Bring a flashlight—it’s mostly uphill and rocky.
~ Watching the sun rise through Delicate Arch was unforgettable. The light was golden, the silence surreal.
Sunset here is said to be incredible too, but if you want fewer crowds and a chance to stand under the arch without a long photo line I recommend seeing the arch for sunrise
~ Distance: 3 miles (4.8 km) round trip
~ Time: 2–2.5 hours

🌄 3. Broken Arch Loop
~ Peaceful trail through desert meadows and sandstone fins
~ Distance: 2 miles (3.2 km) round trip
~ Time: 1–1.5 hours

🪨 4. Park Avenue Trail

~ Feels like walking through a natural cathedral
~ Towering rock walls and dramatic shadows—especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset
~ Distance: 2 miles (3.2 km) round trip
~ Time: 1 hour

🌵 5. Sand Dune Arch + Tapestry Arch
~ A short, sandy walk leads to Sand Dune Arch, tucked between narrow fins like a hidden desert secret.
~ Combine it with Tapestry Arch for a quiet detour—less traffic, and absolutely worth it. It’s a must-do if you love peaceful trails and unexpected views.
~ You’ll be fully exposed to sun and heat here, so bring plenty of water and go early if you can.
~ Distance: 1.2 miles (1.9 km) round trip
~ Time: 30–45 minutes

🧭 6. Fiery Furnace (Guided or Permit)
~ A maze of narrow canyons, sandstone corridors, and dead ends that feel like a natural playground.
~ We wanted to do this one but couldn’t get a time slot—definitely book online a couple months in advance.
~ You’ll need either a permit or a ranger-led tour. Stop by the Visitor Center for info, but book your time slot online to secure your spot.
~ The guided hike is said to be challenging, fun, and totally unlike anything else in the park.
~ Distance: ~2 miles (3.2 km)
~ Time: 2–3 hours

📸 7. Windows Section + Turret Arch
~ Easy access to North and South Windows and Turret Arch
~ We did South Window at sunrise—quiet, golden, and absolutely worth the early start.
~ Great for golden hour photos and wide-open views
~ Distance: 1 mile (1.6 km) round trip
~ Time: 30–45 minutes

🌬️ 8. Skyline Arch
~ Quick hike with a big payoff—especially dramatic against stormy skies or sunset glow
~ Distance: 0.4 miles (0.6 km) round trip
~ Time: 15–30 minutes

🧡 9. Double Arch
~ Massive, graceful, and easy to reach
~ Stand beneath it and feel small in the best way
~ Distance: 0.5 miles (0.8 km) round trip
~ Time: 30 minutes

🛣️ 10. Scenic Drive + Pull-Offs (Highlight)
~ Every stop offers something—arches, fins, viewpoints, and desert silence
~ Perfect for slow-paced exploration between hikes
~ Distance: 18 miles (29 km) one way
~ Time: 2–6 hours with stops
~ If you’re feeling adventurous, take the unpaved road to Tower Arch. It’s bumpy, remote, and absolutely worth it.
The drive winds through Salt Valley and feels like a detour into another world. You’ll need a high-clearance vehicle and a sense of adventure—but the payoff is big: fewer crowds, epic views, and one of the park’s most underrated arches.

🧭 Our Tips for Arches Adventurers

  • Bring lots of water and snacks—more than you think you’ll need. A cooler helps too—cars get hot.
  • Fuel up before you go—there’s no gas in the park.
  • Dress smart: light clothing, hats, and proper hiking shoes are a must.
  • October was perfect: cool mornings, hot afternoons (around 30°C).
  • Explore as much as you can: We spent two full days—one for the popular shorter hikes, one for Devils Garden and the trails we missed.
  • Use washrooms when you see them—they’re not at every stop.
  • Start early: Sunrise hikes are unforgettable and way less crowded.
  • Book Fiery Furnace in advance: Permits and tours go fast—reserve online.
  • Mix it up: Pair iconic trails with lesser-known ones for the full Arches experience.
